Call to Artists

WELCOME TO THE SCULPTUREWALK 2007 CALL TO ARTISTS.

YOU WILL FIND THE ENTRY FORM(S) FOLLOWING THIS SHORT PROGRAM INTRODUCTION. 

SculptureWalk is an exhibit of original outdoor sculptures displayed year around in downtown Sioux Falls, South Dakota., a progressive community of 140,000. 

The sculptures are owned by the artists and loaned to the exhibit. This will be our 4th year.  All sculptures are insured for liability and physical damage.  We actively promote the sale of sculptures to the public and 31 sculptures (38%) were sold during the first two years.

All SculptureWalk artists receive a stipend amounting to $500 in the form of $300 to cover transportation costs and 2 nights accomodations at the Holiday Inn City Centre in downtown Sioux Falls.

Artists may submit up to two original sculpture entries.  

Most of the sculptures will be displayed on 3' or 4' high quartize pedestals, 25" to 60" sculptures look fantastic on these pedestals.  Larger sculptures will be placed on concrete pads.  We ask artists to secure steel plates to the bottom of the sculptures because all sculptures will be welded down for security and safety - Photos on right show examples of a pedestal with  "A Book for Everyone" sculpture by James Haire, and concrete pad with Susan Geissler's "The Potato Man".

All sculptures need to be made of durable material for the year-long outdoor weather and constructed with safety in mind for display in a public setting.

OPTIONS FOR ENTERING SCULPTUREWALK 2007:

1. Online by completing the entry form(s) and sending several photos of the sculpture or sculpture  model as e-mail attachments to sculpturewalksf@sio.midco.net
   
2. Print the entry form, complete and mail with several photos of the sculpture(s) or sculpture model(s) to SculptureWalk, PO Box 1165, Sioux Falls, SD  57101
   
3. Call Jim at 605-339-8359 and request an entry via US Postage that you can complete and mail back in.

General Information -

• Deadline - All entries must be postmarked no later than November 15, 2006.   But, we encourage early entry which will help us better prepare (running 5 color copies of all entry information) for the jury.  The sculptures will be placed on Friday, May 4th and Saturday, May 5th, 2007.
  
• Originality - All entries must be original works of submitting artists
  
• Entrance Fee - None
  
• Acceptance -  The entries are juried for entry with notification of results by December 15, 2006
  
• Best of Show Awards- All entries are judged  for Best of Show by 3 very well known and respected art experts
  
• All artists will receive further program informatioafter entry is received.T
  
• The artist is assigned a time for placement on either Friday, May 4th, or Saturday, May 5th. There will be a team of 4 lifters with a welder that assist the artist with placement.  The lifters move the sculpture to the base and its welded down.  The whole process usually takes about 5-10 minutes and then the artist is free to enjoy the city.
  
• Artists can make arrangements for early placement if necessary.

Schedule for 2007:

• Entries accepted between July 1, 2006 through November 15, 2006.
  
• Sculptures juried the last part of November, 2006
  
• Artists notified of results the first part of December 2006
  
• Sculpture Delivery and Placement - May 4 & 5, 2007
  
• Special Sculpture Sale on Saturday afternoon after SculptureWalk sculptures are placed.
  
• Artist Reception - May 4, 2007
  
• People's Choice Awards - Voted on by the public from June 1st through August 31st
  
• Awards Announcement - September 15, 2007
